Three Generations. One Street. 75 Years of Trust.

The Anderson family has been Vernal's butcher since before the Uintah Basin had paved roads.

Our Story

In 1950, LaRell Anderson opened the doors of Uintah Packing Co. on North Vernal Avenue. Back then, Vernal was a small ranching town in eastern Utah, and the Uintah Basin was still largely untouched by the oil boom that would come decades later. LaRell saw a community that needed a butcher they could trust — someone who would look them in the eye, cut their meat the way they wanted it, and stand behind every pound that left the counter.

By 1955, the operation had grown. Archival photos show a bustling shop with seven or more employees, processing livestock for ranchers and families across the Basin. Uintah Packing became more than a business — it became an institution. The kind of place where you'd come in for a roast and leave with a story, a handshake, and the confidence that your family was eating the best.

Decades passed. Vernal grew alongside the energy industry, tourism brought visitors from across the country, and the Basin changed in countless ways. But one thing stayed the same: the Anderson family, on the same street, doing what they've always done — cutting meat by hand, with care, for their neighbors.

Today, Don Anderson and his wife carry on the tradition. They know their customers by name. They cut steaks to your exact specifications. They'll tell you the best way to cook a roast, share a laugh at the counter, and send you home with something your family will remember.

Don & Family

Walk into Uintah Packing Co. today and you'll find Don behind the counter, just like his family has been for 75 years. His wife works alongside him, and together they run the kind of shop that most people thought disappeared decades ago.

There are no numbers on a screen here. No corporate supply chain. Just a family that has spent three generations learning what good meat should be — and making sure that's exactly what you take home.

What We Believe

We know your name.

This isn't a number-and-wait counter. We know our customers, their families, and what they like.

Nothing leaves this counter we wouldn't feed our own family.

Every cut, every sausage, every package of jerky — we hold ourselves to one standard: ours.

Vernal is home.

We're not a chain. We're not going anywhere. We've been here 75 years and we'll be here 75 more.
